Mayfaire by-the-Lake
Saturday and Sunday, May 8 and 9, 1999
Begun in 1974 as a crafts fair on the lawn of the Lakeland Public Library, Mayfaire has grown into
one of Florida’s premier outdoor art festivals, showcasing the works of approximately 185 fine artists,
food vendors from throughout Polk County and Central Florida, a 5-K race and an evening street party.
Held on Mother’s Day weekend each year, the event is held on the shores of beautiful Lake Morton in
downtown Lakeland. A full entertainment schedule is planned for both days, including performances by
participants of the County’s Very Special Arts program. A children’s art tent offers a hands-on creative
experience for the younger set, while the Mayfaire Classic 5-K run is a Saturday evening competition. The 1997
Mayfaire Classic attracted more than 200 runners from throughout the Southeast.
