Job History and Major Responsibilities

My resume outlines my experience and which tools and technologies I use, along with my level of proficiency with them. It then reviews my major career accomplishments and lists the jobs I have had, education and certifications. To avoid repetition as well as being five pages long, it does not go into detail about the specific job duties at each job. The section below outlines past jobs going back to 2006 and gives those details.

Technical Program Manager IV

Mar 2022 – Apr 2024, Remote – Phoenix AZ based 

Managed cross-functional portfolio and initiatives for two different major programs taking into account team structures, technologies used, and workflows. Engaged with teams to plan concurrent deliverables. Balanced prioritization based on OKRs as determined by management, other necessary work , and anticipated capacity.

Organized and managed deliverables for development and operational teams using different software stacks, server types and setups. Developed a dependency management system to assist my teams and others within the division and company. Facilitated and hosted relevant ceremonies related to dependency management and initiative tracking.

Facilitated negotiations and trade-off discussions to help bring structure and improvements to engineering scrum processes. Analyzed operations and throughput to identify bottlenecks and drove process improvements to lead proactive change. Led a program to write and update Program Documents, including Program Plans and Program Overviews for a Unified Control Plane project involving five different products and development teams.

Responsible for ownership of web store, company web site, and internal web-based tools. Worked with two independent teams in the same Holacratic circle to refine workflow. Initial major task was to organize and prune a huge backlog of work and technical debt that had been building for years. Once the backlog was organized, worked with company-wide stakeholders and developers to establish better communications.

Did constant iteration of development and delivery process to streamline and iterate through incremental improvements. The goal was to provide a better sense or priority to developers and communicate same to stakeholders, while ultimately emphasizing customer (internal and external) needs.

Performed duties of Scrum Master, running ceremonies, tracking results, setting OKRs, with tracking and reporting of results.

Sr. Developer and Web Technologist

Jan 2016 – Apr 2019, Remote & Golden, CO

Primary responsibilities were to lead the architecture of company web site and online store, both front and back end. My teams were also responsible for developing customer-facing features on the web site and internal tools to assist the sales department. Other responsibilities were to develop code and work with QA department to ensure quality of work.

Company used the Holacratic corporate governance framework at the time, and I was conversant in that as well as keeping compatible Agile and Scrum practices. I lead the project to replace and improve a legacy system written on an old version of CodeIgniter with a “blank slate” approach, keeping and expanding functionality while using the more modern Laravel framework.

Additional tasks included full stack web application development, primarily in PHP, as well as maintenance of legacy code and systems during the rewrite.

Led development efforts and did development of numerous client web sites. Responsible for architecting solutions, planning work, assisting other developers, reporting to project managers, and direct client communication when required. Also tracked in detail work done for client billing.

Work was primarily done in WordPress and included client work, as well as maintaining company products.

Development included all aspects of the workflow including initial planning, prioritizing work, determining work specifications, verifying customer or client needs, development, database design, and deployment to various local, test, staging, and production servers. Also worked with differing deployment systems, depending on customer set-up or needs. Interfaced with hosting companies as needed.

Sr. Software Architect & QA Manager

Nov 2009 – May 2012, Las Vegas, NV

Introduced company to version control systems. Prior work had been done “live on the server”. Once version control was in place, I developed a multi-tiered development environment with local development environments, staging, and production. Developed a workflow to manage the new server structure and automated deployment to the various systems. The deployment system was written from scratch and had multiple-level rollback capabilities as well as a “zero-downtime” deployment.

Primary development responsibilities were to lead a team of developers to produce the company web site and back-end code that ran a $20 million a year advertising network. Additionally, I on-boarded and trained junior and mid-level developers, establishing and enforcing best practices and coding standards.

As QA Manager, I wrote automated test suites in PHPUnit / Selenium to verify sites and specific pages / services were functioning as well as notification systems when tests failed.

 

BOOMj.COM / BEYOND COMMERCE

Sr. Programmer / Division Manager

Mar 2008 – Nov 2009, Henderson, NV

Developed internal web application for a social network with an attached store. Assisted other programmers with various training and tasks related to the web application and technologies used. Designed architecture and implemented a fully-automated vendor feed system to import product data into the store. Scope of work included database design and optimization.

This system was used to processes and update over 2 million SKUs a day from fourteen vendors, preventing duplicate product entries using disparate data formats filtered through a common data analysis engine. Code maintained performance and data utilization metrics and was able to report on various aspects of each import.

Was responsible for setting up and maintaining local development environment, staging, testing, and production servers. Developed an automated deployment system to prevent human error and maintain consistency.

Sr. Web Developer

July 2006 – March 2008, Remote – Napa, CA based

Led development efforts and wrote code for numerous client web sites. Was responsible for architecting solutions, planning work, assisting other developers, reporting to project managers, and direct client communication when required. Audited several client code bases and web sties to determine code quality and verify proper security measures in place. Wrote reports and recommendations based on audits. One development project included being sole developer of a member-based system for an organization with 7,000 paid members including user login, content management, usage tracking and other bespoke features.

Work was done in various frameworks including CodeIgniter and Kohana. Did exclusively client work. Development included all aspects of the workflow including initial planning, prioritizing work, determining work specifications, verifying customer or client needs, development, database design, and deployment to various local, test, staging, and production servers.
